Explosive action in Western Australia

3 Jun 2008

On the 17th of May in the WA Italian club Perth, there was a WBC Muaythai fightcard, featuring several action packed bouts.

Dusan Salva Phons Gym WA VS Edwin Samy ETK New Zealand

The 'Dark Horse' Edwin Samy from New Zealand stepped up to take on Western Australia's newest talent Dusan Salva to fight it out for the WBC Muay Thai (World Boxing Council) International Title.

This fight was fight of the night, with both fighters opening up throughout with a powerful mix of Muaythai techniques. Samy looked the sharper of the two in the opening rounds, mixing up his shots well, Salva looked like he was biding his time, waiting for an opening. In round 3 Salva got caught with a sharp elbow, which caused a big swelling to appear on the side of his forehead.

The swelling grew as the fight progressed and Samy continued to work away on it using his jab and low kicks to keep Salva at bay. Salva knew he had to come on strong to have any chance in the fight and in rounds 4 and 5 he stepped up the pace trading kick for kick and standing toe to toe to trade punches with Samy. It was a furious battle with neither slowing their attack. At the final bell the judges were unable to separate the two fighters, scoring the fight a draw and setting the stage for what would surely be an eagerly awaited return match.
