WBC President Mauricio Sulaiman meets with Thailand Tourism and Sports Minister Kobkarn Suriyasat Wattanavrangkul

WBC President Mauricio Sulaiman met with Thailand?s Minister for Tourism and Sports Kobkarn Suriyasat Wattanavrangkul in Bangkok on 4 April. They both agreed that boxing and Muay Thai engenders unity, wellbeing and national pride.

Mr Sulaiman, accompanied by Pol General Kovid Bhakdibhumi President of the Asian Boxing Council and WBC MUAYTHAI, discussed with Minister Kobkarn the development of boxing and Muay Thai for worthwhile national goals.

The Thai government has identified sports tourism as a present and future growth area with economic benefits. Muay Thai venues and training camps are flourishing across Thailand and attracting many sports-minded foreign tourists.

Mr Sulaiman said around the world boxing had become an inspirational sport for those who wanted to improve their lives.

He said children globally had learnt fitness and self-respect through the sport of boxing.

?Boxing is a sport that develops character and the heroes of boxing can inspire others to succeed in life, to keep young people out of trouble and away from drug abuse.?

Minister Kobkarn said she would be co-operating with the WBC to advance the benefits of sports boxing and the culture of Muay Thai in Thailand, which would also benefit people in foreign countries.

This was Mr Sulaiman first visit to Thailand since being elected the WBC President after the passing of his legendry father Dr Jose Sulaiman, known worldwide as the Father of Boxing.

?My father considered Thailand to be his second home. I share this same feeling,? said Mr Sulaiman.

Mr Sulaiman attended a dinner in his honor at the Royal Bangkok Sports Club on 3 April where he presented awards to past and present champions of boxing and Muay Thai.

He also visited the Grand Palace to pay his respect to His Majesty the King of Thailand.
