Country delegates gather at the WBC Muaythai meeting of the World Boxing Council on 5 November 2013

The 51st convention of the World Boxing Council that included the WBC MUAYTHAI was held in Bangkok 3-8 November and attracted hundreds of delegates from 164 countries.

The week long convention resulted in a gathering of many former and current WBC world champions.

A seminar was held for ring officials ? referees and judges ? with special reports presented on safety standards for boxing worldwide.

The WBC has been a leader in safety standards and was instrumental in having the rounds in all boxing contests reduced from 15 to 12 three-minute rounds, as well as standardizing regulations for making weight before championship contests.

The convention was convened by WBC Vice President Pol. General Kovid Bhakdibhumi, President of the Asian Boxing Council that hosted the event at the Centara Grand Hotel with welcome and closing gala dinners.

WBC Executive Secretary Mauricio Sulaiman represented the WBC President Dr Jose Sulaiman who is recovering in hospital from heart surgery.

The convention was officially opened by Pol. General Pracha Promnog, the Deputy Prime Minister of Thailand.

The WBC Muaythai, a division of the WBC, had a separate gathering of delegates to discuss the rules and regulations for the 19 weight divisions and upcoming events for 2014.
