FOR LEVIN SHOWDOWN

18 May 2012

Simon Marcus

Canadian Simon Marcus won a majority points decision against American Joe Schilling to set up the world title showdown with WBC Light Heavyweight Champion Russian Joe Schilling in Bangkok on June 9.

Marcus had to reign in the points over the full five rounds after being knocked down by a Schilling left punch in the first round.

The major decision went to Marcus 47-47, 48-47 and 49-46.

The final elimination contest for the Light Heavyweight Championship was a close, exciting encounter with Schilling avoiding the grappling even though Marcus threw Schilling to canvas on several occasions.

Despite being able to strike with a full arsanel punches, kicks, elbows and knees at the end Schilling fell a little short with technique and the final round saw Marcus finishing the stronger with the judge's verdict was that he had made up the points from the first round knockdown.
