STANIC WINS CRUISERWEIGHT
WORLD TITLE FROM BELLONIE

23 Feb 2010

Croatia's Ivan Stanic snatched a one point decision over defending WBC Cruiserweight Champion Frederique Bellonie in Opatija, Croatia, on 12 February.

The French champion Frederic Bellonie showed he is worthy of a rematch after entering the contest in excellent shape and proving to be a crowd pleaser with his flashy kicks and quick boxing combination.

On the other hand, Ivan Stanic was also well prepared and won the championship with his hard and pure muaythai techniques.

Stanic in the first round inflicted injury above Bellonies eye with an excellent elbow strike and followed up scoring points with front and low kicks.

In the second round Stanic went on the attack to finish the fight quickly but Bellonie wouldn't go down and responded back with strong exchanges.

The third saw the same heavy exchange with Stanic eventually being able to launch excellent high kicks to Bellonies head. But in the fourth Bellonie came back strongly and put more pressure on Stanic as the final fifth round unfolded. Towards the end Stanic again found his rhythm despite taking a heavy cut to his forehead.

The judges scored the WBC cruiser world title in favour of Stanic 2:1 Stanic with the challenger winning by just one point.
