9 Feb 2009

Britain's rising Muaythai sensation Richard Fenwick scored a split points decision to take the prestigious WBC Muaythai Super Welterweight title from Thai expat Malaipet Team Diamond at the packed San Manuel Casino in California, USA.

In a close contest Fenwick was able to match Malaipet's silky skills and won the green belt title with a courageous final two rounds whilst the crowd rooted for another Malaipet triumph. But as hard as Malaipet tried Fenwick held his ground to win an historic battle in an elite Muaythai match-up.

Two of the judges awarded the fight to Fenwick 49-46 and 48-47, while the third judge gave it to Malaipetch 47-48.

On the same card Craig Buchanan won a unanimous points decision against Peter Kaljevic to win the USA WBC Muaythai Middleweight championship.
